Judge personal information:
I have been active in the cattle and sheep industry for nearly 15 years. During my show career I exhibited cattle and/or sheep at every major show in Ohio as well as NAILE and The American Royal, and other shows in Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Nebraska. I was fortunate to obtain titles on all levels whether it be in showmanship or the livestock show itself. After college, my showing career came to an end as I started doing more livestock work for others. My family recently accomplished a State Fair Champion Lamb and a steer that won a national title. In the last few years we've begun putting together more of a "program" of high quality genetics rather just retired show heifers. I have sold cattle that have won national titles and been a part of several champion lambs. Through cattle registrations in my herd, I belong to several breed associations such as Shorthorn, Chianina, Charolais, and Maine Anjou. I've judged nearly 100 county fairs, state fairs,& jackpot shows, and have had the honors to judge at national shows like NAILE and the Canadian Royal Livestock Show. As I try to leave a lasting positive impression, several shows that I judge have asked how soon they could have me back. I am very consistent in terms of what kind of livestock I like. I am a firm beleiver in attractive, sound, capacious, heifers that will go out to the pasture and push out a calf every year without any assistance. The two key factors I look for in a bull are longetivity and productivity. I want my steers to be functional market animals that will go to the rail and hang the most desirable carcass, yet display enough soundness and eye appeal to be labeled a "show steer". My lambs have to have a certain trendy look, and be packed with muscle, while still fitting current industry standards. I believe that showmanship should be an enjoyable experience for every exhibitor in the ring, not just the one who walks away with the prize. Exhibitors should walk out of the ring learning at least one thing that they can improve on, and what set the winner apart from the others. I hope that with this information, you have a good understanding what I can offer you as a beef or sheep judge.
-Attended Ohio State ATI after graduating high school. -Majored in Animal Science with a specialty in beef and sheep production and management. -Studied Livestock Judging and Reasons under Dr. Michael Borger and Mr. Joe Litt.
In my current position with Kalmbach Feeds, I put on many show feed clinics for 4-h and FFA livestock enthusiasts. I enjoy teaching the youth and adults about topics that I am so passionate and excited about. If you do something you love, you won't work a day in your life!

I grew up running my own personal herd of brood cows, clipping and fitting cattle on the side throughout college. After college, I moved to Mattoon, Illinois to manage a 5,000 head farrowing operation. I moved back to Ohio in early 2009 to be closer to my family and get married. I took a job as herd manager for a 60 head cattle operation in Findlay, OH. When offered a job at POET Ethanol as a grain buyer, I took it in a hurry due to a double salary offer. After building up some more experience in grains, I was offered Manager of Countyline Cooperative in Risingsun, OH. My knowledge in livestock nutrition and skills in feed sales opened a lot of doors while I was there. I am now a show feeds specialist with Kalmbach Feeds. While running our own herd of cattle and sheep is not a year-to-year million dollar enterprise, I still consider that a full time job. We have always accomplished our goal to raise higher quality livestock than the previous year.
Local / Personal achievements:
During show career, I won my respective age division of showmanship over 30 times. I have sold livestock that have gone on to win divisions and overall championships at state fairs and national level shows. I have sold individual show-stock all the way up to $25,000. Our annual show cattle sale has brought in more competitive families every fall, and have won national titles from the very first year!
Len Dobbin Q.G.Chairman - Levi judged our 4-H Market beef show in Toronto, Ontario this year. The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is the world's largest indoor agricultural show and Levi was more then up to the challenge.Judging both conformation and showmanship he was great on the mic and took time with each exhibitor.
The Queens Guineas as it's called is the premier market beef show in our country and Levi got em right.
Excellent Judge and individual.
John Gaddis - Levi and his wife judged all 3 species and showmanships at our county fair. They did an excellent job working with the kids. I think what made them different from most judges is that they seem so current and active in the industry. They were able to work with each showman individually to help them improve how they show their animal. My son said they were "more fun" than most judges.
