Miss Murphy began raising and showing sheep in 4-H. She also showed swine from a relative's operation. She was on her county 4-H Livestock Judging Team that won the Ohio 4-H Contest twice. Laura was selected for the all-star Ohio team that competed at nationals. In attending the Ohio State University, Miss Murphy was a member of the collegiate livestock and horse judging teams. While in college, her family began raising Nubian dairy goats. Once graduated, Miss Murphy began judging at fairs and assisted in coaching the state 4-H livestock judging team finally moving up to head coach. As an Ohio State University Educator, Miss Murphy was asked to help with the begining of the meat goat industry with her knowledge of goats. She is a contributing author to the Ohio 4-H Goat Resource Handbook. Miss Murphy enjoys judging any species especially showmanship, however, she seems to judge more goats shows with her experience in all areas such as dairy, meat, pygmy, fiber, and pack and cart classes. Miss Murphy is a member of the American Dairy Goat Association and the Ohio Dairy Goat Association of which she serves as President.
Miss Murphy has a Masters in Agricultural Education from Ohio State and a BS in Animal Science/Agricultural Education from Ohio State.
