Judge personal information:
I have been involved in the cattle industry for over 20 years. During my show career, I had many county, state and national based champions. After my show career came to an end, I attended The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute and majored in Animal Science with a specialty in Beef Production.
After I completed college, I bought and sold cattle who competed at every level. I had several champions at the county level, through the Ohio BEST program, a top 5 market steer at The Ohio State Fair, Reserve Champion Shorthorn Plus at Junior Nationals (2) and several breed champions including; Shorthorn, Shorthorn Plus and division cross.
I have judged many county fairs, jackpot shows and expos. I have also conducted many showmanship clinics with several County Cattlemen’s Associations.
In recent years, I’ve shifted my focus to operating my own feed business. I provide high quality nutrition products to exhibitors in my local area that help them get their projects to the end point.
I stay consistent in the type and kind of animal I am looking for. I take preference in cattle that are structurally sound and correct. I look for well balanced steers that not only have “ring appeal” but also that have true overall width and dimension. I look for the most desirable product that will hang the truest on the rail. For breeding stock, I look for attributes that will contribute to longevity and productivity, i.e; soundness, balance and phenotypic traits. In regards to showmanship, I look for showmen who are calm, collective and maintain a strong ring presence while also being courteous to other showmen. I focus on asking plenty of questions because I feel showmen who are knowledgeable about their projects and have a good understanding of what it takes to get their projects to the end point, set themselves apart from others. It is important to me that each exhibitor learns something throughout the showmanship portion and I feel as if it is my job to send them home with something to improve on for the next show.
I hope with the information I have provided, that you have a good understanding of what I can offer as a beef judge for your show.
